Vampire Costumes for Boys

With vampire movies and comics constantly popular among boys, they often choose vampire costumes for school parties, “cosplay” and of course Halloween. Today’s young vampires may find their inspiration for their take on the bloodsucking characters of myth and legend from sources as diverse as true historical pictures of Vlad the Impaler, the prototype of Dracula, and futuristic images from video games made for the latest game consoles.

Usually, extended teeth, or fangs, and artificial blood are mainstays of any vampire costume, from the most traditional to the most imaginative. These accessories are available from online and offline costume retailers, and quality ranges from inexpensive Halloween items to lifelike fangs and realistic blood that is made for dramatic presentations. Usually, for typical boys, the least expensive products are just fine, so long as the fangs are safe (usually the case due to regulations on imported toys) and the “blood” is easy to remove from any surfaces that your young vampire might spill it on by accident or as part of his slightly rowdy vampire act.

Other parts of a vampire costume for boys can be obtained from retailers as well, or left to your son’s imagination as you allow him access to his or his brothers (or even his father’s) old clothing and your old drapes and bedsheets. As much of the fun and enjoyment of costume play comes from the creativity and imagination of making and wearing an original costume, it is best to help your son develop his own sense of vampire style and to help him and encourage him as he designs and makes his own vampire costume with your assistance. A premade costume is best only for very young children, or for a dramatic production such as a school presentation of a Dracula play where the costume must conform to a drama coach or teacher’s requests. While a young child’s costume is quite inexpensive, often renting a dramatic vampire costume through a theatrical costume rental shop is recommended and may even be handled by the school or other organization that is behind the presentation. Regardless of the type of costume needed or its source, there is no reason for a vampire costume to suck out the contents of your wallet the way your son will ostensibly suck his victims’ blood – rental of even the most elaborate and detailed costume is not expensive even if it is not covered by school or drama club fees.

Vampire costumes are among the most popular and time honored costumes for boys of all ages. Whether true to historical fiction or updated for today’s age of video games and computer graphics, boys enjoy dressing up as bloodsucking semi-human creatures of modern and ancient myth, and encouraging them to do so by letting them design and make their own costumes is a great way of helping your children develop and enhance their creative talents.
